# Speed Test (2nd PC)

Measure how fast your DMA card is with the DMA Tool's speed test.

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Put the cable in the DATA port

Plug the card's USB cable into its **DATA port**, and make sure your **Game PC** is switched on.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Open the Speed test page

Open the [**DMA Tool**](/getting-started/dma-tool.md) on your **2nd PC** and click **Speed test** on the left.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Pick a test and press Run test

* **Full - both, one after the other:** latency and throughput together. **Start with this one.**
* **Quick - latency and reads per second:** how quickly the card answers each read.
* **Throughput - bulk read speed:** how much data the card moves per second.
* **Sustained - hold load and watch for sag:** keeps the card busy for up to 10 minutes and shows whether its speed drops. Use it to find a loose cable or an unstable connection.

Leave the PC alone while the test runs.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Read your results

The main numbers each get a rating of **excellent**, **good**, **fair** or **poor**, and one line underneath sums it up. **Good** or **excellent** on every rated number means your card is working well.

{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

### Speed Test Ratings

|                      | Excellent        | Good            | Fair            | Poor           |
| -------------------- | ---------------- | --------------- | --------------- | -------------- |
| **Throughput**       | 190 MB/s or more | 130 to 189 MB/s | 100 to 129 MB/s | Under 100 MB/s |
| **Average latency**  | 150 µs or less   | 151 to 250 µs   | 251 to 400 µs   | Over 400 µs    |
| **Reads per second** | 6,667 or more    | 4,000 to 6,666  | 2,500 to 3,999  | Under 2,500    |
| **Failed reads**     | Under 2%         |                 | 2% to under 5%  | 5% or more     |

For latency, lower is better. For everything else, higher is better. On the **Sustained** test, a speed drop of 10% or less is excellent, up to 25% is fair, and more than that is poor.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Live monitor:** at the bottom of the page, press **Start live monitor** and leave it running while you wiggle the cable or reseat the card. If the reading drops when you touch something, you have found your problem.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="warning" %}
If your results are **fair** or **poor**, go through [**DMA Troubleshooting**](/dma-hardware-guides/dma-card/troubleshooting.md) **before contacting support**.
{% endhint %}

#### ✅ You're Done

You have now checked that your DMA card is working.

{% hint style="success" %}
If you purchased firmware from us *(recommended)*, we need your DNA ID to build it.

Find your DNA ID here: [**DNA ID Guide**](/dma-hardware-guides/dma-firmware/dna-id.md)
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="info" %}
If you purchased firmware from another supplier or already have your firmware ready to flash:

* View the 35T flashing steps here: [**35T Firmware Flashing**](/dma-hardware-guides/dma-firmware/35t-firmware-flashing.md)
* View the 75T / 100T flashing steps here: [**75T / 100T Firmware Flashing**](/dma-hardware-guides/dma-firmware/75t-100t-firmware-flashing.md)
  {% endhint %}

{% hint style="warning" %}
Tool not working? Use the [**Speed Test (Manual)**](/dma-hardware-guides/manual-method/manual-speed-test.md) instead.
{% endhint %}
